My caterpillar is in her chrysalis! In a few days she will turn into a beautiful butterfly. She frassed a lot when she was a caterpillar. I didn't see her when she was making a j-shape or when she was spinning her chrysalis because it happened over the weekend.when a caterpillar spins a chrysalis the head cap falls off.

My caterpillar Spike is not a caterpillar anymore. He is very still in his chrysalis. I wonder what happens in a caterpillar's chrysalis. Also I wonder what my butterfly will look like. If it will look awesome with a lot of colors or still awesome but with a little less colors. The world is full of questions.

Silk Maker is in a chrysalis. I didn't get to see him in a j shape. But I saw a different one in a j shape. You can't see the silk button. The chrysalis is brown with some white and orange spots. All of them look the same. Some of them are small and some are big. Two of them have fallen.

My caterpillar is in a j shape right now.It molted like 5 times or 4 times and it has frassed all over the place.It`s spiracles are for breathing and breathing out.Its silk is for helping it make a j shape and stick to the ceiling.He is almost close to making a chrysalis.It eats mallow its a kind of leave they lay eggs on and it is mushed up so we can fit it in the cup.

Hooray! My caterpillar is in a J-shape so that means he's ready for his chrysalis. It's why he has frassed alot. He made a lot of silk. The silk button helped him make a chrysalis. He might be a butterfly on Tueseday. His Mallow Plant has helped him grow alot.

My caterpillar is still not in it's chrysalis yet. But some other caterpillars are in there chrysalis already.I think my caterpillar is the smallest in the class but my caterpillar is bigger than it has ever bin before. I just found out that my caterpillar just died.The caterpillars head cap is white. I think that means he is dead. The white head cap looks freaky. I think his head cap tearned white because he was trying to make a chrysalis.

My caterpillar is all ready in his chrysalis! His chrysalis looks like it has bumps on it and it's on the side of the chrysalis. The chrysalis sticks upside down by it's silk button. A silk button is practically is like a button but it is made of silk.

Bob senior has grown so much that he's ready for a cacoon. He has molted alot to. That means he wiggled off his skin. Everytime he molts he gets bigger. I am glad that he can breathe. He uses his spiracles to breathe. Bob Sr. will grow more on field day.

Chloe is very big. She has not frassed a lot. Chloe has eaten the paper off of her lid. She is on top of her lid right now. She is not moving right now. She is about 1 in. Chloe is moving right now. She is shaped like a c for Chloe. Chloe is still on the top and she is eating from the bottom!

I just looked at my caterpillar, he was on his food but than about 2 minutes later he was on the top. My caterpillar named Spike is about 2 inches long! He ripped a hole in the napkin which is right under the top. The caterpillars get their water from the mallow plant he eats.

I got a new caterpillar because my other one died. His name is Silk Maker. The reason is because he makes a lot of silk. He frassed 20 times! I see one exo skeleton. Every time I look at him while I'm making a blog he makes silk. He is so big he can eat while all of his pro legs are on the top. It looks like he is big enough to turn into a chrysalis. He is staying on the top.

My caterpillar is named Brandy. She grew up so fast. She is very cute. My caterpillar is usually eating, sleeping or standing still. It breathes through it’s spiracles. They do not breathe like people do. Caterpillars eat a plant called the mallow plant. The plant is light purple with green leaves. Brandy is huge since I last saw her. You have to mash the food so it looks like the color of peanut butter.

There is a couple of exo skeletons in the cup. Bob likes to eat his mallow plant. My caterpillar moves around a lot. My caterpillar is black, yellow and a little bit brown. My caterpillar is the second largest caterpillar in the class. I can’t wait until Bob turns into a butterfly.

My caterpillar is growing so much! He's fassed a lot though. My caterpillar has grown a lot of...fuzz! He is very long and I think he is flipped over right now or he was flipped over. In my caterpillar's room he has a flat screen tv, he also has a big table full of food on it. He has a nc state rug in the middle of his room too. It's hard to see his eyes if you look at it though the cup. He's in the middle of the cup on his food right now. He's not moving much.

Now Isabelle is in the air a little. Bella is at the top of the cup. Now I have one caterpillar because Ms.Furman took one out because your only sposd to have one caterpillar. I still have Bella. She is really cute.

My caterpillars are awwwwesome! I have 3 caterpillars, their name's are Sam, Garner and Fastey. They have barely moved, they've frassed though. I've noticed they have eaten a little bit of food. They haven't tried to climb to the top yet. ('cause their awesome.) The caterpillars eat grounded mallow plants. But they haven't ate much yet. They've made a little silk, they're growing a lot. Two of them might be hiding in the mallow plant witch is their food. My caterpillars really are awesome!

My caterpillars name is Seeling Crawler. His name is seeling crawler because he crawls on the seeling. He didn`t frass at all. He is yellow and black and a Little brown. He moves all over the place. He eats mashed mallow. The food looks like peanut butter. His food is brown and yellow. On his back he has spikes to scare away enemy. He eats off the wall and seeling. he probably ate alot of mallow plant. a couple of minutes a go he was making the jay sigh. Right now he is eating off the ground from the seeling. Hes on the wall resting now.

My caterpillar is named Faker. He frassed one time. The reason his name is Faker is because it looks like he is dead when you look at him. His color is yellow and black. He stays in a spot for a long time. He eats mashed up mallow. It looks like he likes to look out of the cup. He uses spikes for protection. He never moves when I look at him. It looks like he is going to crawl up to the top for the first time. He is on an angle right now. I see an exoskeleton in the cup. He has been in one spot for almost two days! It looks like he is going to fall off the wall. He is about one inch long.

She is also Bob and Steve Madison's catpillers. She likes to stay on the bottom of her cup. Chole is getting married to Pablo. Chole has not ate alot. Chole has not frassed yet. Frassed means pooped. Chole is very long. She is the best catpiller ever!

My caterpillers are still very small. Two of my caterpillers are at the top. Now one fell down. Now there is one at the top. The bodom one is eating. Their food looks like peanut butter. It comes from the Malo plant. I'm so glad that we have caterpillers!

I can't see if my caterpiller ate any thing. But my caterpiller probblbe ate a little bit of it's food. My caterpiller has bin in a position for a long time. I can't see if the caterpiller has done frass yet. My caterpilleris very small. There is a little bit of yellow and a lot of black on my caterpiller. My caterpiller is moving now. My caterpiller eats some type of yellow stuff. My caterpiller is trying to climb to the top of the container. The caterpillers food smells realy bad. It smells like rotten blue cheese. I wonder what it is like to be the caterpiller. It must be hard being a caterpiller. That is my caterpiller.

My caterpillar is named Pablo Bob Gagliardi. Pablo is brownish blackish. Pablo is still very small. Pablo is a tough bugger. He likes to climb the walls of his cup. Pablo is friends with Chole Jamie's caterpillar. Pablo is also friends with Bob and Steve Madison's caterpillar's. Pablo is very fast. Pablo has not ate alot. Pablo has a hiding spot at the top of the cup. Pablo has not frassed yet. Frassed means pooped. Pablo often rolls up into a ball when he's scared. Pablo is the best ever!

Here's what we did...

First, we scooped out the food. This is mushed Malo from the Malo plant. The Caterpillars will eat a lot of this!


Next, we picked out caterpillars from their cup. They had been in the refridgerator for almost 2 weeks! They were happy to get out and have their own cup.


Here is a caterpillar in his cup. They will hang out here until they make a button at the top and form their chrysalis.


Next we did some observing. We answered the questions: What does their food smell like?, What does it look like?, What does it feel like?


We needed to keep our caterpillars at our desk so that we could continue to observe them as we wrote about their food. They do some amazing things!


We worked very hard on our observations in our science notebooks. We are such great scientists!
