Butterflies
Tuesday, June 17, 2008
Two butterflies hatched a few days ago. They were deformed. Today another one hatched, it is not deformed. One butterfly tried to fly, but it couldn't. It flapped his wings like crazy, but it never got off the ground. The butterfly was fun to watch. Another butterfly just hatched. Butterflies look like they have camoflauge wings, but that's the inside of their wings.

My caterpillar has turned into a chrysalis it has already sheded i'ts exoskeliton has already come off.My caterpillar has alot of frass at the bottom of his cup.Yestuday the caterpillar was in a j shape and that means that it is going to turn into a chrysalis. The next stage for my cater pillar would be to turn into a buetyfull buterfly. My favorite stage of my caterpillar is when it is going to shed i'ts exoskeliton. My second favorite stage is when it is moolting it's skin and the caterpillar head capsile. The hed capsile is a thing that is over to of it's head. The caterpillar gets bigger by removing it's exoskeliton.

Chrysalides!!
We have chrysalides! Our caterpillars are just growing so fast. The heat from the weekend and this week must make them grow really fast. But that's great for us because we need them to emerge by June 27th. Check out some pictures of our first Chrysalis.

Can you see the exoskeleton that he molted right before he formed his chrysalis??
Can you see all of the paper he ate before he became a chrysalis??
My caterpilar is in a chrysalis. It will be a butterfly sooner or latter or maby tomorow. It can run arund in surculs it finily did frass. Frass is the number 2 when you go to the bathroom. A caterpilar eats malo. Malo is a plant. It looks kind of cool when it is in the chrysalis. You can still see the caterpilars body. It does not look the same in its chrysalis.

My caterpillar has gotten fatter than when I left for the weekend on Friday. He has now made frass and molted. There is yellow stuff on the tissue paper, I wonder why it's there? My teacher's caterpillar is ready to turn into a chrysalis, soon! The way you tell if your caterpillar is getting ready to turn into a chrysalis, is check to see if it is in a J shape. I'm really happy with my caterpillar!

My caterpillar has grown so big. My caterpillar has molted. Molt means loosing it skin.My caterpillar eats malo. Malo is a plant.Malo is a plant you can't find in your backyard. My caterpillar frassed alot on the side of the plstice.Frass means number 2 of using the bathroom. The thing that made the caterpillar
My caterpillar is so not big!!!!!!it has just layed in the same spot for 3 days it's dead. Now to get to the real information. The caterpillar gets it's water fron a mushed up plant that is called malo. The caterpillar has this stuff that comes out of him called Frass.Like Dung. The teacher said that we can not say the p word.So we have to say Frass. The caterpillar molts it's skin that means that the skin comes of the caterpillar. The fatest caterpillar in my class is jake's caterpillar.
My caterpiller eats malo. My caterpiller also is moting its skin. It gets water from the plant it eats. And gets its food from the plantmalo. My caterpiller has ate a a lot sense I have gotten him on wendsday . My caterpiller is in a container .My caterpiller gets its air from holes in the cap .Under the lid is
tissue paper .
tissue paper .
My caterpillar has eaten lots of food. The food is called Malo. Malo is a plant. I think the Malo looks like brown, mushy cookie dough with some sand in it. My caterpillar has grown in the past few days. It is the biggest one in my class. Our caterpillars were made by scientists. They will be Painted Laidies. Mine hasn't molted or made any frass (caterpillar poup). Right now my caterpillar is upside-down on the ceiling. When you see a caterpillar hanging upside-down in a J, that means it is ready to form a chrysalis. Hopefully it will form a chrysalis, soon!

Welcome!!
We've just seen our caterpillars for the first time! They arrived on June 3rd, 2008 and started to enjoy their new home on the afternoon of June 4th, 2008. Please check back often to see how they grow and change. Students from Miss Swanson's class will be updating the blog almost daily on their observances of the caterpillar. If you look closely you might even get a picture or two!
